Summer 2000 Nagengast was selected as the delegate while attending the state MEA/MFF convention in Missoula the last week of March. Kate stated I had to submit an application and essay to become a delegate for both the state and national conventions." This is the second time MSU-Northemrn has had a student delegate take part in the national convention. Nagengast, who is from Great Falls, comes from a family of teachers. "Both my mother and father are teachers at Great Falls High School." When asked about what she discussed at the convention Nagengast replied, "The first week is a leadership conference for all the student delegates where we will discuss major issues in education. The second week is the -national NEA convention, many national leaders in education will be there to listen to the issues the students discussed during the leadership training as part of the agenda. Other agenda items include issues concerning all education professionals." Kate is the president of
Montana State University-Northern's Student Education Association. "SEA
is MSUN's club for all education majors. Membership provides an opportunity
for students to explore other areas of education that may not be presented
in the classroom such as contract negotiations, resume writing, interviewing,
as well as providing opportunities for "hands on" experiences working in
the field. There are no membership dues but students are offered the opportunity
to join the statewide organization called MEA/MFT."
