Sports Roundup

Basketball
The Skylights finished regular season play with a 25-2 record and were ranked 7th in the nation in the final standings.  They secured their 11th straight Frontier Conference title with an 81-77 win over Carroll College on February 6th.  They then lost to Carroll in the Pacific West Regional Playoff Game in Havre on March 5th.  Despite this setback the team advanced to the NAIA National Championships where they beat Lee University (Tennessee) 79-58 and Central State University (Ohio) 64-45 before losing 79-59 to top seeded Southern Nazarene (Oklahoma) in the quarter finals.  This marks the first time the Skylights have ever advanced to the third round of the national tournament.  They ended the year with a tremendous 27-4 record overall.

The Northern Lights finished their regular season with a 13-18 record.

Wrestling
The Lights dominated Dickinson State University with a 33-9 win in their last regular season home dual on February 7th.  They then went on to excel at the seven team Great Plains Regional in Havre on March 6th.  After that it was on to the 1999 NAIA National Championships March 19-20 in St. Charles Missouri, where the Lights turned in their 4th straight National title with 151.5 points.  197 pounder turk Lords and 174 pounder Mark Lane were both national champions, while heavyweight Damion Martindale, 125 pound Travis Rollins and 184 pound Tyson Thrivierge all boasted third place efforts.  Lights wrestling coach David Ray was named NAIA Wrestling Coach of  the Year.
