Spring 1999
Alumni Receive Awards

Tom Butcher, '84, was recently named Montana's young Farmer of the Year.  He became eligible for this title after winning the Fergus County Young farmer of the Year Award last October.  MSU-Northern representatives, including Chancellor Mike Rao, were pleased to be on hand when Butcher accepted his local award from the Fergus County area Jaycees.

Two Northern alumni, Barbara Neuwerth, '84, and Matthew Ladenberg, '81, were awarded the Governor's Award for Excellence in Performance during and awards ceremony in the State Capitol Rotunda in Helena.

Neuwerth received the award for her work in developing combined application forms for housing and infrastructure programs to be used by the Departments of Commerce, Environmental Quality, and Natural resources.

Ladenberg was recognized for his design and creation of several innovative repair tools and his invention of a new method for rebuilding governor covers that has been used to fix diesel engines throughout the state.
