Spring 2001 The donor issue of the Aurora Borealis is the perfect opportunity to thank all of you who have been such staunch supporters of Northern. One of the wonderful perks of working with Northern alums is the opportunity to hear all the stories and inspiring memories that emphasize the important role Northern has played in the lives of so many. It is a privilege to work with you to assist the next generation of students as well. Our mission is to keep alumni informed and involved in the support of Northern and Northern students through this alumni newsletter, scholarships for worthy students, projects with student groups such as the Society of Automotive Engineers and the joint Goose and Gander care and repair, Homecoming, Founder's Day, Reunions (three this next year!), Alumni Athletic Events and other Association activities. Something to look forward to soon will be the NMC/MSUN History project. Volunteers have been working for over a year collecting information to update the write up on our first 50 years, which was originally written by Lou and Toni Hagener. The draft is fascinating reading. We'll let you know when it is available. Each year the Alumni Association makes a concerted effort to contact all alumni, to update their mailing and personal information in our records and to encourage them to become involved with MSU-Northern through Alumni Association activities and projects. Your support has been the reason we have been able to continue producing the Aurora Borealis, increase the value of our scholarships, repair and refurbish the Goose, as well as host social events this year in Havre, Lewistown, Billings, Great Falls and Seattle. We have just completed our millennium issue of the Alumni Directory and are beginning to see the growth of the Association credit card project and appreciate your support of both of these undertakings. It is our belief that current
students from Northern are more effective than professional telemarketers,
so we hire students to work the phonation for us. Donors have the option
to send in their pledge before the calls begin if they choose to do so.
Time constraints limit us to one reminder between the end of the phonathon
and the end of our fiscal year in June, so we do accrue some outstanding
pledges. Currently, we have $8,727.00 in outstanding phonathon pledges
from 428 donors over the last two years.
