Fall 2001 Homecoming
week started with 20 NFL legends visiting Northern for a fundraiser that
consisted of three fun-filled days (October 16-18) of pheasant hunting.
The first day started with a trap shoot at the local trap club. Then
the legends joined 18 teams of six people per team and spent two days at
various locations across the Hi-Line. There were individual competitions
for the longest tail feather and longest spur and a team competition, which
measured the two longest tail feathers from each team's limit. Major
companies like Jim Beam, Pepsi, Budweiser and Burlington Northern
Santa Fe Railroad sponsored the teams. The event was the brainchild
of local NFL legend Mike Tilleman and was successful in raising
over $19,000 for Northern's football and athletic programs. Milton
Daily, from Hunting Lease Magazine, covered the event, and the program
will air on Tuesday evenings six times during the next year on the Outdoor
Channel, so watch your local listing.
![]() Northern has a long tradition of homecoming activities and this year is no exception. This year's homecoming King and Queen were Jeff Miller and Jackie Dardis. They were selected by the student body from 12 couples representing the various clubs and groups on campus. ![]() Jackie grew up on a farm in Savage. Montana. She is a senior in the design drafting program with a minor in civil engineering and manufacturing. Jeff grew up in Sidney Montana where he enjoys hunting and fishing. Jeff is a junior in the diesel program and hopes to get a good paying job as a diesel mechanic and eventually work his way into management. Homecoming is now celebrated during our football season instead of our basketball season. This change occurred when Northern restored football and it has given a big boost to our school spirit.
