Tamayo Harada by Emmy Lu Olson Fall 2001 On
September 2, 2001, Tamayo Harada, 83, passed away at a Chinook
nursing home.
Tamayo was secretary to five of the first six presidents of Northern Montana College. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, her professional appearance and demeanor, and her gracious manner in all aspects of her job. On her retirement, she paid tribute to the presidents she had worked for stating that "they were all fine, dedicated, talented persons who had a particular talent suitable to the time and phase which the college underwent". Tamayo was born on August 20, 1918 in Taylorville, Idaho and graduated from Ammon High School in Osgood, Idaho, in 1935. She married Thomas T. Harada in Havre as few years later. From 1949-1957, she worked for the Sacred Heart Hospital, before she took a job as secretary to the president of Northern Montana College. An alum of Northern, she received her AS in Business Administration in 1962 and graduated with a BS in Business Education in 1966. Retiring in 1980, she was active in many organizations including Business and Professional Women, American Association of University Women, and American Association of Retired Persons. She was a former member of the Van Orsdel United Methodist Church and was a member of First Lutheran Church at the time of her passing Tamayo was preceded in death by her parents, Tsurukichi and Tsune Morishita and her husband, Thomas T. Harada. Survivors include her son Richard of Havre, 4 brothers: Sadao and Yutaka Morishita of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Kenzo Morishita of Bountiful, Utah, and Leo Morishita of Sparks, Nevada, and one granddaughter, Heather Stein, of Phoenix, Arizona.
