Fall 2001 Homecoming,
October 19, 20 & 21, 2001. Their
schedule of activities began with a Friday evening registration and social
at the Beaver Creek Golf Course, now owned by alum Max Erickson
'70. On Friday morning, the alums met at the Student Union dining room
for a continental breakfast with community and honored guests. Chancellor
Alex Capdeville, also a celebrating alum from the classes of '67, '72,
and '74, gave a fine welcome and introductions were made. ASMSUN Student
Body President, Dan Geelan, presented Chancellor Capdeville and
the campus with the new Northern flag, designed and purchased by the students.
They also displayed the flag at the Homecoming game for the community and
fans to see.
During the three-day schedule of events, alumni also participated in the various Alumni Games. The Skylight's volleyball team defeated the alumni team in three games 30-21, 30-26, 30-19. The alumni team, loaded with National Champions and All-Americans, snuck by the young Lights in their matches. The men's basketball team handily defeated the short-handed but valiant alums 138-95. For-the first time in the history of the women's basketball program, the Skylight's alumni defeated the new Skylight's team 77-75 in a highly contested and entertaining game. The alumni team boasted several members of the National Championship team and proved to be a tad bit too much for the younger Skylights. After an event filled week, it can be said that "a good time was had by all."
