Minor Program Overviews

Accounting Minor
An accounting background is useful for many career paths. Most obvious are jobs directly related to accounting and finance. However, people in many other careers and in a variety of settings--corporate, small business, or not-for-profit organizations--find an understanding of accounting useful. For students who intend to become a Certified Public Accountant, a five year degree is required; our minor allows the student to transition seamlessly into a Masters in Accountancy Program to fulfill that requirement and refine their accounting skills.

Applied Agriculture Minor
The Applied Agriculture Minor is designed to provide four-year degree majors with primary coursework in the agricultural sciences and applied agriculture technology. A popular and very complementary major for this minor is the four-year Business Administration degree. Many of the two-year agriculture technology majors continue on and pursue a four-year degree in a non agriculture major and choose the agriculture minor to support their B.S. degree.

Marketing: Technical Sales & Service Minor
A minor in "Marketing: Technical Sales and Service" provides students with a broad background in marketing with a focus on personal selling, customer service, and advertising/promotion. Students with this minor should be well-prepared for entry level marketing, sales, or customer service positions in many industries, depending on the student’s major.

Small Business Management Minor

Overall, small businesses are the stock from which large businesses emerge, the first job of many new workers, and the opportunity for their owners to achieve the American Dream. Small firms represent about 99 percent of employers, employ about half of the private sector workforce and are responsible for about two-thirds to three-quarters of the net new jobs." (Office of Advocacy, US Small Business Administration)

Our Small Business Management minor is designed to give students the tools necessary to own or manage a successful small business. Management, law, financial applications, operations, and marketing are all topics that receive expanded attention in this minor.

The College of Technical Sciences also offers minors in the following areas:

Agricultural Mechanics Technology
Automotive Technology
Business Administration
Computer Information Systems
